Description

We are so happy and excited that our Phal cross just won a Silver Medal at the 23rd World Orchid Conference in Taiwan 2021! We named this amazing complex novelty Phal after a friend and remarkable woman with a reputation for her sharp wit, salacious sense of humor and raunchy comments, but also known for her vast horticultural knowledge (not limited to orchids), generosity, and dedication to orchid societies.

The pod parent Phal. Nobby's Green Eagle ‘Montclair' AM/AOS, is our own awarded clone ‘Montclair,’ which is an extraordinary bloomer with multi-spiking habit. The pollen parent, Phal. Chang Maw Jade (Phal. Yungho Gelb Canary x Phal. Yungho Gelblitz), is a novelty green Phal. with exceptional color and shape. The objective of this cross is to create a novelty green Phal. with a high flower count. Phal. Patti Lee certainly achieves that goal. It is very fragrant and has a multi-spike habit, which means the older spikes remain green for several years and continue to bloom concurrently with newly matured spikes. Do not cut the spike unless it is brown and dry. It grows well on a bright windowsill or under lights.

The genetic composition of this hybrid is 40.63% Phal. micholitzii, 34.38% Phal. amboinensis, 18.75% Phal. violacea, and 6.25% Phal. venosa. We’ve seen some really impressive flowers come out of this cross, including some with green picotee, some with white centers and lip, and some with pink blush. Being seedlings, the progeny can resemble either parent or grandparent. You won’t know until it blooms. We look forward to seeing many awards for this exceptional cross.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
