Procatavola (abbreviated Pcv.) Key Lime Star 'Sweetheart' was created and registered by Roy Tokunaga in 2019. This cattleya intergeneric hybrid is super cute! The plant is compact and bears adorable, fragrant, green flowers with a white lip. It is heat tolerant, low maintenance, and easy to grow—perfect for beginners. The clone ‘Sweetheart’ was chosen for its amazing sweet fragrance and long-lasting beautiful flowers that have a waxy texture, excellent shape and unusual trumpet lip with a green throat. The flowers are longer lasting than B. nodosa. Its genetic composition is B. nodosa 50%, C. forbesii 25%, and Prosthechaea [Psh.] mariae (syn. Enc. mariae) 25%. You can clearly see the influence of B. nodosa and Psh. mariae.
These plants can be grown in a pot, in a hanging basket, or mounted. Give Cattleya level light and warm temperatures. Can be grown on a sunny window sill, under lights, or in an orchid cabinet. Water and fertilize regularly during active growth. Can be grown outdoors in areas like Southern California and Southern Florida, where winters are frost free.
