Paph. lowii (lowii ' Uschi ' AM/AOS x lowii ' Golden Gate ' AM/AOS) , NF2208
This is a sibling cross of two outstanding awarded Paph. lowii strains. We are looking forward to flowering this line-bred cross. We expect flower quality awards for this cross using superior parents.
Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) lowii is a large multi-floral species found in Southeast Asia ranging from Malaysia, Borneo and Indonesia in areas that receive copious amounts of rainfall during seasonal monsoons. It experiences a cooler, drier winter season that still has regular rainfall. It grows in limestone cliffs and prefers an open mix that retains moisture.
This is an easy to grow spectacular multi-floral species. It produces tall spikes with up to 7 showy, long-lasting, colorful flowers that appear in the spring and summer months. We grow them alongside novelty Phals; in fact Phal. bellina is also found in the same area. Blooming tip: giving it more light in the winter will promote flower spikes to form in the spring. It flowers for us right after Mother's Day in Southern California. Mature plants put on a spectacular display sure to capture the attention of everyone around. A welcome addition to any orchid collection. Very rewarding species. Very highly recommended.
