Description

This is a very exciting remake of the classic historical hybrid Paph. Vexillarium, originally registered by the world renowned James Veitch & Sons of Chelsea (UK) in 1870. This remake is a modern twist using Paph. barbatum var. nigritum (which is a new miniature form of the species) and the awarded Paph. fairrieanum ‘Red’ AM/AOS with striking dark red stripes. Phal. fairieanum dominates the size and shape of the dorsal sepal. This plant will be like a miniature Paph. Juno, which is Paph. callosum x Paph. fairieanum.

These compact plants are quite easy to grow and can bloom in a 2.5-inch pot. It produces multiple growths at the base that blooms when it matures. It can flower twice a year with multiple spikes in a very small pot and becomes a specimen plant very quickly. Flowers are long-lasting, glossy, dark burgundy with a tall dorsal, nice pouch, good shape and form, held on a sturdy erect inflorescence. The wonderfully variegated leaves are very attractive even when not in bloom.

Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or under lights. We grow these plants alongside our Phals as it has similar requirements. An excellent beginner plant. Perfect for growers with limited space. A “must have” for any serious Paph or miniature orchid collection. Very Highly Recommended!
