Paph. Pinocchio (glaucophyllum x primulinum) , , N63 , NF6 , 63
Paph. Pinocchio is a primary hybrid with Paph. glaucophyllum and Paph. primulinum, created and registered by Mr. Marcel Lecoufle of Lecoufle et Vacherot (France) in 1977. We are very delighted to have this remarkable remake from the premier Paph hybridizer, Mr. Hung Sheng Bear of Taiwan. Mr. Bear is the past president of Taiwan Paphiopedilum Society (TPS). He has the best Paphiopedilum species collection in Taiwan, if not all of Asia. This gorgeous remake was created using superior parents.
The pod parent, Paph. glaucophyllum 'Bear-1' BM/TOGA, was awarded a Bronze Medal by the Taiwan Orchid Growers Association. It has a nice, large flower with a dark pink pouch. The pollen parent, Paph. primulinum ‘Bear’, has a very good color and flower shape. Both parents are easy to grow sequential bloomers. This vigorous strain of Paph. Pinocchio is compact–growing, sequential bloomer with up to 6 flowers per spike and has a blooming period of 3 – 6 months. Flowers are long lasting with a heavy substance.
Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow these plants in intermediate light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. Water twice per week for best results. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Excellent for growing under lights, on a windowsill, or in an orchid cabinet. Grow alongside Phal, as it has similar conditions. Highly recommended for beginners, Paph collectors, and growers with limited space.
