Paph. Little Winston (primulinum fma. flavum x Winston Churchill ' Indomitable ' FCC/AOS) , NF3050
We created and registered Paphiopedilum (abbreviated Paph.) Little Winston. This hybrid is a new trend in Paph breeding where complex (or Bulldog) Paphs are bred with sequential blooming species such as Paph. primulinum. By using the flavum (yellow) color form Paph. primulinum as the pod parent , the result is more compact and allows the color from Paph. Winston Churchill ‘Indomitable’ FCC/AOS to dominate. The pollen parent is the highly acclaimed and highly awarded Paph. Winston Churchill 'Indomitable' FCC/AOS. It has been used extensively as breeding plants through the decades and produced countless remarkable progeny.
Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation, on a windowsill or under lights. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year.
These impressive plants resemble a miniature Paph. Winston Churchill. The compact plants are very vigorous, heat tolerant and are late blooming versus regular Bulldog types. The striking flowers are very waxy, have heavy substance, and lasts for several months. We grow these plants alongside our Phalaenopsis and it does not need to have cooler nighttime temperature to induce flowers unlike the complex (or Bulldog) types. Great for under lights, on a window sill, or in an orchid cabinet. Highly Recommended.
