Paph. FANGtastic Crystal Rae (American Beauty x barbatum) , NF1299
We are pleased to name this hybrid after our good friend Crystal Rae of Florida. Paph. American Beauty 'FANGtastic' (Paph. Black Rook × Paph. Black Buddha) is our own breeding and both parents have strong vini-color (i.e., wine color). Paph. barbatum var. nigritum is a very cute miniature species native to Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia. This variety of Paph. barbatum is a very dark-colored form of the species! Bearing a very compact leaf span of just 4-6”, its flowers can reach up to 3” across. Its handsome dorsal sepal and petals are well defined and crisply marked with rich plum striping, perfectly finished with a rich plum pouch. Paph. barbatum var. nigritum keeps this hybrid compact. These compact plants (known as Maudiae type Paphs) are quite easy to grow and flower. It can bloom in a 2.5-inch pot. Long-lasting, glossy, dark burgundy colored flower with a tall dorsal, nice pouch, good shape and form, held on a sturdy inflorescence and can bloom twice a year. Flowers are large relative to size of the plant.
Paphs detest soggy growing medium; pot in well-draining media. Grow them in bright light and warm temperature with high humidity and good air circulation. As with all Paphs, its roots are sensitive to salt buildup from excess fertilizer which causes leaf tips to turn brown. It is a good practice to flush the medium with fresh, clean water once a month and repot Paphs in fresh media every year. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or under lights. We grow these plants alongside our Phals as it has similar requirements. An excellent beginner plant. Perfect for growers with limited space. Very Highly Recommended!

No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
