Formerly known as Oerstedella wallisii, this gorgeous species has recently been transferred to Epidendrum. They are found in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica and Panama in wet montane rain forests at elevations from 1,640 – 6,890 feet (500 to 2100 m). It is a large sized (growing up to 14 inches in height), warm to cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial with anchoring roots which like free air moment and the stems growing in a bushy tuft from the base. The stalk is stiff, with leaves on the apical portion of the stalk. Leaf sheaths have prominent warts. It blooms in the fall and early winter on a lateral or terminal, arching to pendulous, 4 to 6" (10 to 15 cm), inflorescence arising from the leaf axils carrying few flowered, elegant, long-lasting, waxy, fragrant flowers. Easy to grow on a bright windowsill or under lights. Give high humidity, water frequently but allow roots to dry well each day. They do best if the roots are in an airy media that will dry out quickly, mounted also works well. The roots do not like to be disturbed. Weather tolerant, able to withstand brief temperature extremes, favoring intermediate.

Since this is a Seedling Population (not a Mericlone which produces exact duplicates), the picture is for illustration purposes only. No two plants will be the same from this cross, and they will flower in a range of possibilities coming from the two parents.
