Chy. limmiinghei (limminghei ' Sunkiss' x limminghei ' Pumpkin') NF2269
Chysis (abbreviated Chy.) bractescens is an unusual species found in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua on trees and occasionally on rocks in humid forests at elevations of 2,625 – 4,920 feet (800 to 1,500 m). It is a large sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with fat, pendulous canes and carrying several semideciduous leaves that bear flowers from the base of a new growth as it appears in the spring with a pendulous to arching 12 inch long inflorescence with up to 10 waxy, fragrant, white flowers. This species requires a drier winter to ensure blooming. Plants may be grown in pots with an open, well-draining mix, but are best grown mounted or in baskets to accommodate the pendant canes. Grow in bright, diffused light with good air circulation. Water heavily when plants are actively growing until pseudobulbs mature. Reduce water during the cooler months, but maintain high humidity to keep mites at bay. Can be grown on a bright windowsill or under lights.
