Bulb. tingabarinum f. flavum , NF1021
Another fabulous member in our wearable orchid collection, Bulbophyllum (abbreviated Bulb.) tingabarinum (syn. pecten-veneris) is a micro-miniature species found in Hubei, Fujian and Anhui China, Hong Kong, South Vietnam, Laos and Thailand in evergreen lowland forests at elevations of 2,600 to 4,000 feet as a warm to cool growing epiphyte.
This flavum form from Vietnam is the extremely rare yellow variety of the species. Bulb. tingabarinum f. flavum blooms from summer through fall on 4-inch long inflorescence formed at the base of the one-half inch ribbed pseudobulbs carrying a single thick 2-inch leaf. The inflorescence holds 3 to 9 simultaneously opening 3-inch yellow flowers in a fantastic umbel. It can flower several times a year if kept in warm conditions. Unlike most Bulb., tingabarinum does not have a foul odor. Some would say that it smells like carrots or cilantro. It thrives under warm temperatures, regular watering and fertilizer, high humidity, bright light, and good air circulation. We grow this next to our Phalaenopsis, receiving bright light but no direct sun. Can be grown on a windowsill or under lights; mounted or in a pot. An easy-growing and floriferous micro-miniature, this charming species produces a beautiful bright display and is an ideal addition to any orchid collection!
