AND THE HEAT GOES
ON...with our unusually hot
September. As a result, we have seen exceptional
growth and flowering in our Cattleya Collection, many of which are
FRAGRANT. Enormous flowers are bursting forth from robust
growths which have matured over the summer, from our adorable
miniature Cattleyas to the compact growers and up to the standards,
some of which are featured here. Our standard Cattleyas are
now producing huge flowers with their unique charm of ruffled petals
and lips, available in every color of the
rainbow.

MC281 Blc. Mem. Crispin Rosales
'Deerfield' is believed by many to be the best of all
the Blc. Mem. Crispin Rosales clones. This particularly
fragrant beauty, with its wonderfully ruffled petals and rich lip,
is a division of the original
stock plant.

MC342 Blc. Taiwan Queen 'Golden Monkey'
HCC/AOS combines everything exciting
about today's Cattleya breeding - brilliant color, boldly
splashed petals, charming ruffling on both petals and lip, fragrance
and a compact growth habit. Rightfully recognized with a
flower quality award from the American Orchid Society.

MC601 Lc. Chyong Guu Swan 'White
Jade' AM/OSROC: As classically elegant as the stars of the Silver Screen
in days gone by, this large fragrant semi-alba, with its rich cerise
lip, never fails to please. Narrow white picotee enhances the
ruffled lip with the finishing touch of golden yellow in the
throat.
MC1333
C. Monte Elegante 'Sinpu': Literally bursting with
excitement and bearing clusters of up to 12 flowers on each spike,
this Cattleya displays bold fuchsia flaring on its petals to mimic
the fuchsia lip, giving the overall appearance of three lips!
Showy, fragrant and a must-have from the famous Dogashima Nursery in
Japan.

Tips: With the advent of shorter days and
cooler temperatures, your plant growth will begin to slow
down, and the newer leaves and pseudobulbs will need to harden
off before the onset of winter. If you've been using a high
nitrogen fertilizer to support vegetative growth, start using
a balanced fertilizer for fall and winter. If you fertilize
"weakly weekly", reduce your fertilizer concentration
to 1/4 the recommended strength. Contrary to popular belief,
the use of a Blossom Booster formula in the fall will not
make your orchid flower - only proper culture and a fully
mature plant will produce flowers. A better rule of thumb
is to use the same balanced fertilizer year round, modifying
its concentration according to the season, using more during
active growth (at 1/2 the recommended strength), from spring
through the summer, and reducing it's concentration, as noted
above, in the fall. Norman's Orchid Fertilizer is an ideal
formula to use all year, giving your orchid the right balance
of essential elements and minerals for good healthy growth.
